Becoming a Patent Attorney is to enter a respected profession that offers a rewarding mix of science, technology and law. The profession is particularly attractive to those wishing to retain their interest in science and technology while applying it more widely in a legal context.

Make no mistake, training to become a Patent Attorney is difficult, entailing a series of demanding examinations. To help you tackle these, you will receive training and support, through external courses, in-house tutorials and daily contact with experienced colleagues. Trainee Opportunities

Trainee Patent Attorney / Technical Assistant - (Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics)

We are accepting applications for Trainee Patent Attorney / Technical Assistant positions (commencing in September 2018), within Maucher Jenkins well established Patents team based in our Surrey office (or London office, if candidate prefers), with a background in Communications Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Physics.

The right candidate will be a self-starter who likes working as part of a team; they will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to work effectively with our national and international client base; they will have strong time management and organisational skills; and will be able to demonstrate dedication to providing excellence to our clients.

Due to the high academic requirements for this opportunity, only graduates with at least upper second-class honours will be considered. Although not essential, research or industrial experience is preferred. We are also keen to hear from candidates with Chinese or German language skills.

All necessary training will be provided to lead to full qualification as a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney. We offer a competitive salary and attractive bonus scheme.

Legal Billing Clerk

A new opportunity has arisen within our thriving Trade Marks Group based in our London office for a Legal Billing Clerk.

The purpose of the role is to work with the Partners, fee earners and support team of the Trade Marks Group, to ensure the timely preparation of and distribution of client invoices.

The role will entail a full range of billing activities including preparing and issuing accurate client invoices including using electronic billing systems, documenting client requirements, preparing and maintaining invoice templates, maintaining records, sharing knowledge and, where possible, improving internal processes.

The right candidate will have excellent organisation, time management and communication skills; they will possess a strong eye for detail with the ability to meet multiple deadlines; and will have a professional and positive attitude with excellent customer service skills. A degree of flexibility is also required as the right candidate will be required to provide administration/secretarial support, as needed.

Experience working in a professional services/office environment and legal billing/invoicing experience, as well as sound knowledge of MS packages including Word, Excel and Outlook, is essential for this role.
